What is DBT?
Developed in the 1980s by Marsha M. Linehan, PhD, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a therapeutic approach designed to support adolescents and adults experiencing emotion dysregulation, interpersonal challenges, impulsivity, negative self-thoughts, self-injurious behaviors, and suicidality.
DBT integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which emphasizes change, with mindfulness practices that foster acceptance of reality and teach skills to effectively navigate it. A distinctive feature of DBT is its compassionate and pragmatic approach to solving everyday life challenges.
The primary focus of DBT is teaching the skills necessary to manage intense and often painful emotions while responding to situations in adaptive and productive ways. These skills are introduced in our DBT Skills Training Classes. In individual therapy sessions, conducted alongside Skills classes, patients work with their therapists to apply specific DBT skills to real-life situations, supporting the achievement of their therapeutic goals.
Our DBT+ Program services
Individual Therapy

Crisis Coaching
Outside of therapy sessions patients may need crisis coaching from their therapist to avoid escalating the situation. DBT crisis coaching provides support and a reliable place to turn. Crisis coaching is available to help individuals navigate difficult moments without making things worse.
DBT Skills Classes
In our DBT Informed Skills Class Patients learn and practice DBT skills to better identify and manage their emotions, control their impulses, handle difficult life events, improve their ability to interact effectively with others and gain greater ability to make positive, rather than self-destructive choices in their lives.
Skills Training Class consists of four Skills Modules: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. Each module is approximately 6 weeks. DBT Class is not “group therapy”, it is a productive skills learning environment.

Team Approach
Our team of therapists meets regularly to provide consultation, education and support to each other. Our collective team approach offers patients in treatment with Hudson View Mental Health the additional benefit of the therapeutic consideration and strong collective experience of our team.
“My 15 year old has been a client for over 2 years now and I can see a tremendous improvement in how they handle their anxiety and depression and cope with day to day life. Where there was once a major issue with school attendance and overall social anxiety, there is now a re-emergence of self-confidence thanks one-on-one therapy sessions and the weekly adolescent class. I am very grateful for this practice for helping my child address and cope with their mental health issues. I would highly recommend their services.”
